So, it happened. I turned 25. I can’t say I’m terribly excited about it. I’m officially at the age where I’m starting to dread that number getting higher and higher. Although a lot of people have told me that 25 was an amazing year for them, so hopefully it’s not as bad as I think it will be.
I will say that the year has started out great for me so far and I had a fantastic weekend of birthday celebrations thanks to Ed. He definitely spoiled me and I feel super lucky.
On Saturday Night, we went to see Gone Girl at the theater. I read the book a few months back with my friends and we all loved it, so I was happy to finally get the chance to see it. I really liked the movie and thought the acting was amazing and that they really stayed true to the book.
On Sunday morning, Ed and I headed out to brunch at Queenstown Public House in Little Italy.
We first spotted this place while hanging out at the farmer’s market and I’ve wanted to come back ever since because it had such a great ambiance. I ordered a Peach Basil Sangria and the Oink, which was pulled pork and garlic kale on top of jalapeno cornbread. Amazeballs.
After brunch, we hit up the Hillcrest Farmer’s Market and Trader Joe’s for our weekly grocery shopping and our Sunday ended with some wine and watching The Purge: Anarchy, which was as bad as I expected it to be.
Monday was my birthday and Ed had lots of “secret” things planned for the day. After getting ready, our first destination was to La Jolla Cove to lay on the beach and watch the seals.
It’s crazy how close the seals let you get to them and check out those views! It’s such a gorgeous area and it was a perfect way to start out the day!
After leaving La Jolla Cove, we came back to our apartment to eat lunch that Ed had grabbed before heading back out.
Delicious. With full bellies, we changed and headed to our next destination, Torrey Pines State Reserve, to do some hiking. We stayed on the Guy Fleming Trail for the most part, which took us right next to the ocean.
Breathtaking. We stayed here to watch the sunset before going back home to change again and go to dinner.
Ed originally planned to take me to a Mexican restaurant I’ve been wanting to try, but after passing a Thai restaurant on our way, we both decided we were more in the mood for that.
I ordered the Shrimp Pad See Ew. My fave. After dinner, we walked back home where Ed made me the most amazing birthday cake. Seriously, just look at that thing. My only request for cake was that it wasn’t chocolate, so he went with Hummingbird cake. Look it up if you haven’t had it yet, it’s amazing!
So yeah, needless to say we jam packed a lot of activities into the day, but it was a great way to start out my 25th year!
What would you say was your favorite age so far? Everyone keeps telling me their favorite was 25, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed!!
